Becoming A Christian
Understanding what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is much more than merely knowing about Him or who He is. Many people know about Christ, but they never experience the change that comes with accepting Him in a personal way. So how can you know Christ and experience a life change?
The Bible makes it clear in Romans 3:23 when it says, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." That means everyone, through mistakes, choices, even birth has come up short of the standard that God expects for perfection. We all have made mistakes at one time or another, and thus we are all sinners.
The Bible also says in Romans 6:23 that, "The wages of sin is death." At this point we have reached a terrible block in the road. If we are all sinners, and the wages of sin is death (seperation from God in a place of torment called hell), then we are all in a hopeless mess. How could you or I ever expect to be reconciled to God on our own. We certainly cannot be accepted on the basis of how good we've been, or how many charitable works we've performed. The Bible says that it is by faith we are saved, and not of works. Salvation is the gift of God, otherwise we might be able to boast and claim some part in the work of salvation.
So what of this gift? John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, would not perish but would have everlasting life." You can substitute your name in place of whoever and know that God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross so that you could have everlasting life!
So what can you do to take advantage of this gift? Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved." You must admit your status as a sinner, seperated from God by your mistakes, with no hope to be made right on your own. Next, you must believe in your heart that Jesus died on the cross for you and that He rose from the dead just as the Bible has said. Finally, you must invite Christ into your heart as your Savior and Lord, and turn control of your life over to Him.
If you are deciding right now that you want to become a Christian we are celebrating with you! This is one of the best decisions you will ever make! There is a prayer you can pray to receive Christ. You don't have to pray these exact words, simply use it as a guideline to help you.
I know that I am a sinner. I know that I have fallen short of your glory. Please forgive me of my sins and come into my life. I acknowledge You as Savior and follow You as Lord. Please come into my life and help me to become the Christian You want me to be. Help me to learn how you want me to live. Thank you for saving me. Amen.
If you've prayed and invited Christ into your life as Savior and Lord for the very first time, please, let us know by sending us an email. Do not be ashamed of the decision you have made. Now you must tell the world of the change that has been made in your life!
