Small Group Discipleship Opportunties

Small Group Discipleship Classes

New classes will begin on Sunday, January 8, 2012

6:00 pm

Caring Hands Prayer Ministry led by Bobbie Condrey and Shelia Wilson
Want to give something tangible that lets people know they are being remembered in prayer? This group will be knitting shawls, praying over them as they knit them and then giving the shawls away to those in need of prayer. Don’t knit or maybe you’re and amateur?  That’s okay!! If you have a willing heart, a desire to meet and establish new relationships with others and to spend time praying for others, then you will love this group.  This group will meet on Sunday afternoons from 4:30-6:00 and 6:00-7:30.  Don’t miss this opportunity to be involved in one of these group times.

Radical led by Doug Ruff and Larry Greene
What is Jesus worth to you?  It’s easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live and what their new lifestyle would actually look like.  They would, He said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for Him.  They would abandon everything for the Gospel.  They would take up their crosses daily... but who do you know lives like that?  In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider, with an open heart, how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences.
He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple—then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard.
And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a “successful” suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment, a one year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Living a Life of Balance (Women of Faith Series) led by Bethel Stephenson
Do you long for a life of balance? Living a life of balance is easier said than done.  We try so hard to be everywhere at once, to be all things to all people; to our husbands, to our jobs, but before we know it, we're completely worn out and a life of balance seems virtually impossible.
Living a Life of Balance will encourage women to slow down and take a closer look at how they are living their life. As Christians we aren't just balancing our household schedules with work, diet, rest, and exercise, we must also consider the spiritual balance of our lives. How are we handling the balance between faith and sight, between love and obedience, between longing and contentment? Only God can guide us toward the balance we desire, and it starts with our hearts. This 12 week study will help us get there.

r12 True Spirituality According to Jesus led by Casey and Dana Summers
Being a genuine disciple of Christ flows out of a relationship with Him.  It’s about experiencing God’s grace, not earning His love through performance.  A real relationship with Jesus Christ will produce a follower whose life looks progressively more like His life.  Romans 12 provides a relational profile of an authentic disciple: someone who is surrendered to God, separate from the world’s values, sober in self-assessment, serving in love and supernaturally responds to evil with good.  Christians who live out this kind of lifestyle are what we call R12 Christians.  God is willing to go deeper and grow you into a real disciple.  Are you ready?

Study on Hebrews led by Keith Stephenson and John Mellody
Jesus Christ is superior in His person, in His priesthood and in His power. This is the message of the Book of Hebrews. Come join John Mellody and Pastor Keith as they walk through each passage and section verse by verse. Hebrews is loaded with rich theology that challenges, inspires and changes lives through the timeless truths that flow from the author’s pen. Although written to Jewish believers around the time when the Old Testament sacrificial system was coming to an end with the destruction of Herod's Temple in A.D. 70, the Book of Hebrews is central to helping believers today understand the relationship between the Old and New Testaments.
Do any of these favorites sound familiar: so great a salvation (2:3), the living Word of God (4:12), the throne of grace (4:16), the anchor of our soul (6:19), the intercession of Christ (7:25), the definition of faith (11:1), the Hall of Faith (11:4-40), the great cloud of witnesses and the Christian race (12:1-2) and the benediction (13:20-21)!
One commentary we recommend is, “The Key to Living by Faith: Hebrews” by Kay Arthur and Paul Delacy. This book will be available for purchase ($9). However, you may prefer a different commentary on Hebrews for personal devotion/study or to study without the aid of a commentary. Either way, it’s your choice! Bring your seat-belt because you’re in for a ride!!

Boundaries
Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. A boundary is a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible. In other words, boundaries define who we are and who we are not. Boundaries impact all areas of our lives: Physical boundaries help us determine who may touch us and under what circumstances -- Mental boundaries give us the freedom to have our own thoughts and opinions -- Emotional boundaries help us to deal with our own emotions and disengage from the harmful, manipulative emotions of others -- Spiritual boundaries help us to distinguish God's will from our own and give us renewed awe for our Creator.
Often, Christians focus so much on being loving and unselfish that they forget their own limits and limitations. When confronted with their lack of boundaries, they ask: - Can I set limits and still be a loving person? - What are legitimate boundaries? - What if someone is upset or hurt by my boundaries? - How do I answer someone who wants my time, love, energy, or money? - Aren't boundaries selfish? - Why do I feel guilty or afraid when I consider setting boundaries? Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend offer biblically-based answers to these and other tough questions, showing us how to set healthy boundaries with our parents, spouses, children, friends, co-workers, and even ourselves.
